Louisiana state Senate committee sides (again) with oil companies against parishes over lawsuits

A month after Attorney General Jeff Landry authorized a $100 million settlement with an oil and gas company, a group of state senators are blocking a change in state law needed to carry it out.

The settlement is between Freeport-McMoRan and coastal parishes that have sued the company alleging that its exploration and drilling activities decades ago have caused coastal loss. Read more...
